The SEED project at Mumbai Smiles is one of our initiatives in the area of Women Empowerment. We firmly believe that all women have the potential for growth, provided they have access to information, adequate skills and required resources. SEED Project aims to empower women in the age group of 18-40 years from the marginalized section of society by imparting them a set of marketable tangible skills through training in short term modular courses. The project has reached out to 626 underprivileged girls and women since its inception in July 2012.

We recently received a huge order of 744 greeting cards for Christmas festival and we thought of engaging our SEED beneficiaries for this purpose to allow them to upgrade their skills for employment and motivate them for developing their personality. 3 SEED beneficiaries were thus engaged to complete the order. The beneficiaries on the other hand have also taken this opportunity seriously and demonstrated their sincerity and dedication by being regular in their work. Part of proceeds will also be shared with the beneficiaries, and at the same time, they got an opportunity to learn a new art/vocation.

We are also proud to share with you the feedback of quality check committee (objective committee for reviewing quality of products) – “The quality of the greeting cards has tremendously improved and there were barely any pieces with faults. The beneficiaries have maintained commendable symmetry and standardization in their work.”

We are now getting more orders from other sources due to such high quality of our cards and we are planning to approach shopping malls for getting a kiosk. We hope to continue to keep empowering our beneficiaries in similar ways in future.
