SEED beneficiaries celebrate women’s day

Women Empowerment is a key component of all activities at Mumbai Smiles. We firmly believe that all women have the potential for growth, provided they have access to information, adequate skills and required resources. SEED Project aims to empower women in the age group of 18-40 years from the marginalized section of society by imparting a set of marketable tangible skills through training in short term modular courses. Recently, on 9^th March 2015, we celebrated women’s day with our SEED beneficiaries. The celebration took place at Birsa Munda Adivashi Samaj Hall in Andheri.

Overall, 50 beneficiaries and community women participated in the event. The objective of the event was to spread the message of women empowerment through sessions and awareness songs and to inform members present of Mumbai Smiles and its seed project.

We invited resource person Ms. Catharine (Majlis NGO) and Ms. Shraddha (Vocational Training Unit) for spreading awareness. Catherine conducted an interactive session on violence against women and Shraddha spoke on vocational training of women. Ms. Sarvparita, Future Smiles Project Head spoke on women empowerment and Priyanka, our SEED Project Head gave information about the organization and seed project.

The women present participated in awareness songs. Local leader Mrs. Mandakini Kadam also spoke on women’s empowerment. She said, “I am a business women and run my own travel agency in Andheri area and it feels great to be independent and take your own decisions.”

Women thoroughly enjoyed the event and got a lot of information. They know their rights and feel more confident now. As a new initiative in the area of women empowerment, we plan to regularly invite resource person from Majlis Organization.
