Sanitary Napkin distribution for LSE Girls

In Awareness, Health, Life Skills Empowerment, Mumbai Smiles, Thank You

The LSE or Life Skills Empowerment project for the adolescent girls of underprivileged segments of Mumbai (in our project areas) is one where girls imbibe the different life skills in themselves with the help of an animator (effectively a guide), to lead  a better life – one that is healthy and of good quality. One of the very important topics covered in these sessions is about the menstrual health of girls. This is one topic which is of utmost importance related to a girl’s health and is also a taboo in many parts of the world, especially in the slums.

To help the girls cope through the difficulties of menstruation each month, sessions are conducted for them to understand the biological function of this very monthly occurrence and how to make it as comfortable as possible for oneself, with the help of right measures – including intake of nutritious food and usage of proper sanitary napkins. However, what can be an easy purchase for many of us, can be an item of luxury for those with severe financial constraints and this is exactly the case with many of our beneficiaries in the slums. This is where the supporters, donors and partners of Mumbai Smiles come forward to help these girls with sanitary napkins each month.

We have had some very generous supporters for this purpose, including Courtyard Marriott, Inners Wheels Club from Mulund hills and a couple of college girls who raised funds for sanitary napkin through a bake-sale fund raiser and with their support, we are able to provide these girls with sanitary napkins! We wish to thank each one fo them for their selfless support to us and to the girls!!
