The Balwadi Project, which the pre-school project run by Mumbai Smiles for the select communities of Mumbai, recently shifted one of its Balwadis to a new project site – SAIBANGODA.
A Tribal area, Saibangoda is located in lush green locality in the interiors of the city in the Aarey colony area and highly untouched by the local authorities. A pretty ignored community, while we may find the area to have larger jhuggis than in other areas of Mumbai, the place is clearly very underdeveloped in terms of education, hygiene, sanitation and health. One day, by change, two of Mumbai Smiles team members, Program Officer Mr. Vikas Gaikwad and Field Coordinator Bapu Bhadke, chanced upon this area.
Post a thorough interaction with the members of the tribal community residing in this area, they realised the need to adopt it as our project site. And hence, soon, Mumbai Smiles set up a Balwadi at this new project site, post completion of all the formalities. Today, Mumbai Smiles is running a regular Balwadi here for the children of this beautiful green community and the weekends here are spent in conducting health camps as well!
While Saibangoda is extremely different from the rest of the areas that are affiliated with Mumbai Smiles, this is equally important to us, and the activities run here are no different from the other communities. We believe in equal opportunities for all and no discrimination and it is exactly what we practice!
