Preschoolers participate in drawing competition

 In Mumbai Smiles

One of the biggest challenges facing educators who work with disadvantaged communities is to ensure that the children do not drop out prematurely. Many factors can cause a child to drop out of school and not all of them can be easily fixed. However, as educators we can do many things to ensure that children do not drop out because they lose interest in education. The excitement that a child has on the first day of school should be maintained as much as possible throughout.

One of the ways to keep children interested in school is to engage them in different extracurricular activities. Mumbai Smiles organised a drawing competition for all its preschool students on 5 October 2018. Over 600 little children took part in the competition. Apart from maintaining interest in attending school, the competition was also intended to get the children interested in drawing and colouring—activities that help develop fine motor skills. It also improved their colour knowledge and vocabulary
