On Doctor’s Day: Meet our DOCTOR!!!

Every year 1st July is observed as Doctor’s Day to acknowledge and honor the great work of doctors who take every pain to save the lives of people.

On this Doctor’s Day we introduce you to Dr. Nirmal Ahuja, Unit Head Health at Mumbai Smiles. A very vibrant and happy go lucky person by nature who likes to be around with people. He is a person who carries a positive aura around him and this gives him an edge as a medical as well as a development Public Health professional.

He holds a Bachelors’s degree in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery. An article in Times of India titled “Public Health and its Future in India” by Dr. Anita Karr (HOD, Genetics, Pune University) inspired him to pursue a career in Public Health. Post the Bachelor’s degree completion; he did Master’s in Public Health from the School of Health, Community & Education Studies, Northumbria University, United Kingdom.

Public Health Education at UK gave him a global insight of various health issues and also equipped him with the required technical aspects & epidemiological research knowledge. He has the urge and passion to work for the needy communities and his degree in Public Health, pedagogical experience and medical knowledge has helped him evolve into a fine and empathetic developmental health professional. He has a rich experience in Tobacco Control, HIV/AIDS Control, Maternal and Child Health, Cancer care etc and has worked with various National and International Organizations to contribute in development of Public Health Status in India.

He is grateful to Mumbai Smiles for giving a platform at such a young age to Head the Health Department. Flexibility and freedom to innovate new things is what he enjoys the most while working with us.

He aspires to establish a Public Health Institute in future.
