Natural Soap-Making Workshop for Community Women

 In Mumbai Smiles, SEED

Suppressing of women has been a sub-conscious and common practice in most countries of the world, particularly the developing ones. At Mumbai Smiles, we have a vertical, which is currently dedicated to the women of the slum communities where we work, in order to empower them with various skill-sets, that would help them with employment opportunities for themselves, and this is done with the support of our livelihood project called 1000 Hands.

Recently a three day workshop was held for the community women to make natural-soaps, which was attended by 26 women of the project.

The workshop included an interactive session with the beneficiaries on the employment opportunities in the field of soap making and the demand for natural soaps in the market in Mumbai city, followed by discussion of the various ingredients that go into making natural soaps, using locally and easily available materials. Once the safety guidelines were thoroughly discussed, the practical segment of the workshop began, which led to a number of questions and experiments, ranging from how to include particular fragrances and designs, how to ensure good quality of the soap and how to make high quality soaps with budgetary restrictions – all of these questions were answered in detail by the trainer and thus ended the three-day fun workshop for the women.

The response to this training session was extremely positive and we are glad to have conducted this for our beautiful ladies!
