At the heart of any successful programme is the robustness of its systems and processes. The Monitoring & Evaluation department of Mumbai Smiles is responsible for checking the operational efficiency of our projects and ensuring that they achieve the outcomes they have been designed for. The department conducts these evaluations on the basis of various templates that cover different aspects of operational efficiency and outcomes achieved. These have also been developed for our education projects—a very important way to assess the learning imbibed by the students and the efficacy of the curriculum.
The department recently conducted a workshop with the Navnirmiti Foundation to explain these processes and share the methods that they use. The templates were explained and also the ways to measure the outcomes achieved by students in the classroom were also elaborated. These also included a teacher-training plan and tools to measure healthy habits in the students. Such training and sharing of systems and processes will ensure that our projects are properly assessed at all times to provide the maximum benefits to the slum community.
