Extracurricular activities are found in all levels of schools in many different forms. They can be sports, clubs, debate, drama, school publications, student council, and other social events. Extracurricular activities are activities that students participate in that do not fall into the realm of normal curriculum of schools. Extracurricular activities are totally voluntary so students that do not want to participate in them do not have to. However, they provide experiences that are not included in formal courses of study. The positive effects that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better grades, school completion, positive aspects to become successful adults, and a social aspect.

With this objective, we organized a Fancy dress competition across all our 25 balwadis. Around 450 children participated in the event. Students and parents demonstrated their creativity to the maximum with student’s being dressed from animals and doctors to mermaids and policemen. All the students seemed extremely delighted with their outfits.

Towards the end of the event, each student was rewarded with a gift as a token of participation. Two of the parents, shared their feedback as under:

Sunita Dhotre, mother of a Powai Balwadi student,” This is a very nice activity organized by the across the balwadis. All children look very different in various costumes. Such events motivate the children to come in the balwadis regularly.”

Safiya Shaikh, mother of another student says, “I personally like such events that are organized for children.  I encourage my child to participate in each event because we come to know his skills. The events also help improve confidence level through various participations.”

It was a break from the normal routine for students and they were glad that such a fancy dress event was organized.
