As part of the Community Health Project, we at Mumbai Smiles Foundation organised a free Eye check-up camp on October 12, 2017 near the National Institute of Training in Industrial Engineering (NITIE) area in Powai. This Eye check-up camp was organised for the first time in a mobile van in close collaboration with Doctor Eye Institute.
The aim of conducting the Eye check-up camp was to identify vulnerable people of the underprivileged local communities and treat their eye problems and disorders. To help in providing solutions to various eye defects, we will be distributing free spectacles to the people who were identified with refractive errors. For those in need of cataract surgery, a free surgery will be organised to save the vision and to mitigate further complications of the people and all these treatment processes are underway currently.
A total of 98 people were screened out of which 12 people were identified with cataract problems, 12 were identified with refractive errors, and 15 were referred to the clinic for further tests and evaluation.
A special thanks to community leader Mr. Natha Hatagale for his encouragement and support to provide free logistics and his assistance in distributing pamphlets in the local communities to create awareness regarding this camp. His coordination and cooperation from the beginning till the end is very much appreciated. And al big thank you to our partner Doctor Eye Institute for conducting the eye camp and treatments!
