Empowering Change Agents through self-analysis workshop

In Life Skills Empowerment, Mumbai Smiles

Imbibing life skills is a lifelong process for all of us. These skills help us to navigate the world successfully; they are crucial to our overall wellbeing and happiness. Life Skills Education is a key module in our Primary Education and Higher Education projects; where they are imparted to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds who constitute one of the most vulnerable segments of the population. An important part of this module is to empower our past participants to become ‘Change Agents’ who then help younger students in our schools as well as girls in the wider community to understand and use crucial life skills successfully. This helps the Life Skills programme reach many more people as well.

In order to further encourage and empower our Change Agents, the Primary Education Project conducted a workshop on 21 September 2018 at the Savitribai Phule Girls’ School in Saki Naka. The topic of the workshop was ‘Knowing Oneself’. It was attended by 16 Change Agents and a few Mumbai Smiles coordinators. Apart from getting updates from the young women about the tasks assigned to them in the past, simple exercises were conducted to help them know their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. Such self-awareness can play a crucial role in making the Change Agent more conscious, more impactful and more capable of dealing with different situations in the wider world.
