Candle making workshop organized for survivors at Kamathipura

 In Mumbai Smiles

The International Labour Organization estimates that over 21 million people are trafficked globally, where over 75% of trafficked victims are women and girls. Survivors often face social discrimination and psycho-social trauma making it difficult for them to leave their past behind and live as dignified individuals. Our Community Health project helps survivors with coping skills and their reintegration into society through mini workshops in skilling.

A candle making workshop was organized by Mumbai Smiles Foundation in collaboration with Oasis organization at Kamathipura. The skilling workshop was organized to develop interest in candle making and encourage survivors to pursue candle making as a self-employment and livelihood opportunity. Mr. Mahendra Matele conducted the training where the art of candle making was demonstrated and explained to beneficiaries.

Conceptualized for the first time, our endeavour is to continue organizing similar workshops with local NGOs, for human trafficking survivors in Kamathipura area.
