Rasika making Greeting Cards

Women Empowerment is a key component of all Mumbai Smiles activities. We firmly believe that all women have the potential for growth, provided they have access to information, adequate skills and required resources. SEED Project aims to empower women in the age group of 18-40 years from the marginalized section of society by imparting them a set of marketable tangible skills through training in short term modular courses. The project has reached out to 1,285 underprivileged girls and women since its inception in July 2012. The project provides training in both Employment based courses such as Retail Sales, Advanced Computer, Front Office Receptionist and Self Employment based courses such as Beauty Culture, Handicraft and Fast Food.

Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more.” –  Anthony Robbins
Mrs. Rasika Mhatre exemplifies the above statement. In 2013, she underwent training in handicrafts at Mumbai Smiles. Since then, she is helping Mumbai Smiles in completing and executing various roses, greeting cards and diya orders. She is very adept with her skills and was one of the key members who helped in completing the St. Jordi’s day order and also in making 1000 greeting cards for Christmas. She is associated with Mumbai Smiles since the inception of SEED project in 2013.
Being an ex- beneficiary, she recently came back as a mentor and mentored the new participants in the Rose Making project. 60 women participated in this activity. The beneficiaries learned to make flowers and roses. These beneficiaries will seek employment or self-employment post the completion of their course. They were very inspired to learn from Rasika and had smiles on their faces. They could easily resonate with her since she also went through the same path in her life.
