Shivani holding her message

Completing a marathon is a great achievement for anybody. However, the possibility of changing somebody’s life through every step in one’s run can give him/her a sense of pride like no other. These runners make a difference by being the change they want to see. From education to women empowerment, the Dream Run saw people from varied backgrounds running for various purposes and making their every step count. They were truly an inspiration to the onlookers and made a difference by promoting the cause they believed in.

The Dream Run was a 3km long run for all the ones who believe in running for a cause. Mumbai Smiles organized this run in collaboration with St. Rocks Educational Trust which caters to the educational needs of the students in the community. From school teachers and young students to women and executives, the runners were a diverse group of participants. The event gave a platform to spread various social messages.
This is what Malti, our SEED trainer, had to say about the Run: “I was really motivated to run. I never ran a marathon. It felt so liberating to run and make your voice heard. I represented the SEED project and we were a group of 10 women running the marathon. Completing more than 3 years at Mumbai Smiles – as a beneficiary initially and then as a trainer, we have come a long way. This DREAM RUN reminded us of all the difficulties that we went through before reaching our destination. It was an amazing experience.”
LSE girls, ran to promote education and shared their feelings by giving the following feedback: “We were holding the banners throughout the marathon and motivating people to finish their run. The experience was amazing. Everyone was excited to run and supported our cause to promote education.”
One of our young participants, Shivani ran the marathon to promote the idea of Girl Child education and to prevent Female feticide. She said “Education helps us to be better. Every girl should get an opportunity to learn. I want all the people to read this and save girl child.”
The Dream Run marks our entry into a new decade and we look forward to further scale up and enhance our impact in the society.
