Baby Strollers and Toys distributed to beneficiaries

                The Maternal and Child Health program (MCH, earlier known as the mMitra program) works for the women of the select slum communities of Andheri East, to help improve and sustain good health of the women who are pregnant and those with children under the age of 1.

                Toybank and Mumbai Smiles have been associated and have worked together over the last few years to work in the field of child’s health and development through toys. Games and Toys are an essential aspect of a child’s growth as it helps the cognitive and motor development of children. And so, last week, the two organizations came together again to distribute some strollers and toys for the needy women and their children in our tribal project area of Saibangoda.

                This toy distribution event began with a unique inauguration ceremony where the youngest child was given and made to sit in one of the Tobank strollers and then the main event began with an interactive session where the members of the MCH project and Preschool Education team explained the importance of games and toys in a child’s life to the 20 mothers in attendance. These mothers were selected for the distribution, purely on the basis of their financial requirement. Post the interaction session, the toys were distributed by the team members to these 20 women for their children and the joy in this room couldn’t be contained!

                All the beneficiaries were extremely happy to receive these gifts. One of the mothers said, “We always saw the privileged people carrying prams and strollers and heir kids playing with toys in parks. We couldn’t afford all this but we are thankful to Mumbai Smiles and Toybank for this great initiative!”

                Such initiatives help us to create better acceptance of our project work by the beneficiaries, who are our extended family members and our daily support system and through such initiatives, the access, support and rapport among the community and the project team members benefit a lot, leading a step closer to development!
