A Beautiful Spanish-Indian couple visits Mumbai Smiles

 In Mumbai Smiles

Saioa and Mandar lovely Spanish couple from Bilbao, Spain were headed out on their trip to India.En route to Mumbai, the couple had visited Mussoori, Uttarakhand, India and were lucky to have met one of their favourite authors – Ruskin Bond.  They seized the opportunity to buy some of his books and also have them autographed by him.

Having read Jaume’s book “Sonrisas de Bombay”, the couple had planned to travel to Mumbai to see some of the projects being run by the organisation to help the underprivileged.

We visited two preschools situated in the tribal area and which is in the centre of Mumbai city. This area is prone to frequent power outages. It was encouraging to see the enthusiasm to pursue education in such unfavorable condition.

After lunch we visited one of the preschool parents. The mother of two children was unaware about her age and being a victim of domestic violence. It was sad to know that she was accepting this as a way of life.

After the last visit Mandar said, “Just the 5 minute visit to the house of one family was a big eye-opener.

As an Indian, I’ve always seen poverty, but with this visit I see the small ways we can help to make big differences in the lives of people.”

The couple were glad to have met Jaume and see the projects run by Mumbai Smiles. As a token of gratitude, they gifted the books autographed by Ruskin Bond to Mumbai Smiles, so as to contribute towards the noble efforts of Mumbai Smiles and helping our LSE (Life Skills Empowerment) girls to inculcate a habit of reading.

Thank you so much Saioa and Mandar for visiting us. We wish you all the best for your future endeavour!
