48 examined at Free Infectious Diseases Medical Camp
We are back with updates on the free medical camps held for our beneficiaries in our seven project areas. Recently, we held a free medical camp in the Powai Market area to screen our beneficiaries for five Infectious Diseases. These five infectious diseases, covered as part of our project are Malaria, Dengue, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and HIV, which are some of the most contagious ones to attack the city of Mumbai and through our project of Infectious Diseases, we try to reach out to maximum number of the slum population, as possible, in order to create awareness about these near-fatal diseases, as also improve the general health through community intervention.
At this latest medical camp, a total of 48 community members were screened, of which 38 were females and the rest 10, males. The doctor present at the camp was Dr. Jayendra Gawade, Assistant Medical Officer in the Health Department of BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), who not only examined the patients, but also provided free medicines to the ones who needed it.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Sheetal Kharat was extremely happy about the camp and said, “Mumbai Smiles Foundation is doing a wonderful job by providing us such medical facilities. So many times, we are unaware of the government facilities provided for us and we come to know about it only through the efforts of Mumbai Smiles. I am extremely thankful to you for your constant support!”
One-on-one counseling was also provided to each of the beneficiaries on how to stay protected and prevent these diseases by way of good daily nutrition and other preventive techniques. These beneficiaries will now get connected to the Urban Health Centre for further examination and treatment, if needed.
