The festival of Ganpati is celebrated in a grand way in Mumbai. This is the time when you see almost all of Mumbai out on the streets, visiting the different pandals enjoying all the festivities. And so the Health Tem of Mumbai Smiles, took advantage of this festival at one of our project sites in the Vikroli area to conduct a mega health camp here for infectious diseases as well as eye check-up, where 133 beneficiaries (57 male and 76 female) took advantage of this free medical health camp!
In association with Yash Foundation, with complete support from the community members and the three generous doctors, Dr. Bharati Bhavdane, Dr. Arun Ravate and Dr. Shubhangi Rongate, the camp was successfully conducted within the premises of the Ganpati Mandal itself. Dr. Bharati Bhavdane was also extremely kind to have invited a spectacle agency for selling certain medical products at extremely nominal rates.
Along with regular check-ups, the camp also conducted one on one personal medical and nutrition counseling sessions for all the beneficiaries present; post check up, free medicines and spectacles were also distributed to patients on prescription from the doctors present at the camp. And it was heart-warming to see that many of our beneficiaries had come to this camp for a follow-up check-up from the last camp! The increase in awareness of staying safe and taking precautions for staying healthy, especially during the Monsoons, which acts as a breeding time for most infections. It was even more admirable to see increase in the number of female beneficiaries this time, who expressed how comfortable they feel with such camps as it helps them take care of not only themselves, but also their children and families, thanks to the guiding provided by the doctors who share their time and expertise with us here!
We have many more such camps coming up in near future and hope to be able to extend our services to more citizens of Mumbai.
