130 School Children Get Free Dental Treatment

The Community Health program at Mumbai Smiles includes free medical checkups and treatments for the beneficiaries of the project areas, especially related to eye and dental ailments. For this purpose, various free health camps are set up in the project areas as well as partner schools (of Higher Education and Girl Child Education projects).

The Free Dental Checkup Camp

Recently, a free dental checkup camp was held in Sharada School in the Saki Naka area of Andheri East, where a total of 458 students were screened. Of these, 130 students were identified with various dental issues and the treatment process for each of these young citizens began soon after. And we are happy to say that the basic dental treatment for each of them has been completed. This basic treatment includes extraction, scaling, cleanup and filling as per requirement for each of them in the school premises itself.

Before the treatment began, a counseling session was conducted for the students, along with the parents to give them detailed information on maintaining good oral hygiene. In addition to this, an oral hygiene session was conducted even for the teachers of the school, along with demo in order to inculcate good habits among the teachers as well.

For this entire exercise, we want to express our gratitude towards all those who made this possible, which includes the team of doctors under the supervision of Dr. Nikhil Ahuja, who conducted the checkup camp, treatment camp as well as the counseling sessions; as well as the Principal of the school, who provided us with space to conduct the free camp as well as treatment procedure for the entire duration of the process.

Post the completion of the mentioned basic treatment, 42 students have now been referred for advanced treatment, the process of which has already begun, the details of which we will share once the procedures have been completed!
