Refresher Session for Teachers on Human Rights

In Advocacy, Awareness, Events, Jump2Justice, Mumbai Smiles, Preschool

Throughout the year, the JUMP2justice (J2J) team arranged a number of awareness sessions in the communities via discussions and events to spread awareness among the citizens on the important topic of Human Rights, including Child Rights, Women’s Rights among others. However, we realised that just discussions are not enough. How to gauge that the information has really gotten through to the citizens and that they are able to apply these Rights in their daily lives with confidence and successfully?

So, the team then organised a refresher awareness session, especially for all the teachers and assistant teachers since they are the ones dealing in and out with all the tiny little children every day as well as with their parents and hence are the true ambassadors of our mission and vision.

Over the period of a few days this session was held for the various topics of Human Rights – Fundamental Rights, Child Rights, Women’s Right, Right to Education, Linkages between Social Issues and Human Rights and how to solve those issues within the purview of the Law as per the Constitution of India, while the session began with just one way review of the Rights from the Field Coordinators to the Teachers, it progressed on to Group Discussions, sharing of personal experiences to team problem solving sessions and even a minor test as an evaluative method.

After all the discussion and interaction, there was even a quick test session to ensure that the information has seeped through in to all the teachers’ mind, the evaluation and analysis of which is being done by the Monitoring & Evaluation Department, the results of which will be circulated later among all the teachers. And we thank all the teachers for their continuous support to us to make these sessions receptive and more interactive and interesting for all of us!
